Business Development Specialist-Business Division

Venable LLP is seeking a Business Development Specialist to join the Marketing team in our growing DC headquarters. This individual will implement marketing and business development strategies to meet division goals and manage related business development initiatives.  

  The ideal candidate will be responsible for... 

  • Assisting with implementation and management of short- and long-term business development initiatives.  Assisting with planning, implementing and managing new business or cross-marketing initiatives. Tracking activity of initiatives and key metrics.
  • Reviewing practice group and division business plans. Developing, implementing and managing individual business development plans for division attorneys in accordance with practice group plans. Tracking and reporting progress to attorneys and discussing adjustments as required.
  • Developing content for event and non-event related marketing materials, brochures, e-mail and other similar formats.  Managing related production and distribution.  Coaching attorneys on best practices for marketing content.
  • Maintaining marketing mailing lists for individuals and practice groups. Managing flow of information to marketing technology team members.
  • Managing and ensuring timely and effective execution of all marketing events. Identifying and communicating event strategy and goals to events team. Liaising with events and communications team on logistics and materials requirements. Managing the development and distribution of related promotional materials.
  • Researching and developing division pitch materials and responses to RFPs.  Ensuring all proposals and content for use with future proposals are tracked in proposal library and relevant proposals are posted to firm’s intranet, including the practice group pages.
  • Preparing various marketing reports; maintaining spreadsheets for tracking and management purposes; maintaining project lists and event/project plans.  For all marketing expenses, ensuring compliance with budget policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will demonstrate...

  • A minimum of two years related experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong attention to detail.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with databases and PC applications, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of website database/technology, intranet database/technology and mass e-mail distribution software.
  • General understanding of marketing concepts and principles, including the ability to develop, implement and track results of attorney and short/long-term business development plans.
  • Ability to plan, implement, manage and track results of new business or cross-marketing initiatives.
  • Skills to manage large internal and external events from developing theme to post-event analysis.
  • Ability to estimate production times and to oversee production of client/firm mailings, proposals and other marketing materials.
