Venable LLP is seeking an experienced professional to support our Patent Prosecution Practice in our Washington, DC headquarters. The Patent Specialist will be responsible for providing support to attorneys and clients for all patent prosecution activities.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for..

  • Managing assigned dockets and collaborating with IP docketing team
  • Reviewing, processing and filing new applications and supplemental files
  • Preparing e-filings of IDS, Declarations and Substitute Statements
  • Assisting with responses to various Office Actions
  • Preparing client correspondence and various reporting letters
  • Managing the billing process; collaborating with Billing Department

The successful candidate will demonstrate...

  • A minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience, including partner-level practice management support
  • Proven knowledge of federal rules, regulations, and U.S. and international Intellectual Property Law (37 C.F.R., MPEP, PCT regulations)
  • Ability to effectively utilize IP docketing software (Inprotech), USPTO online resources
  • Proficient knowledge and usage of document management system (WorkSite/FileSite)
  • Ability to independently and efficiently prioritize workflow, and maintain an organized task schedule
  • Ability to manage high volume and efficiently prioritize competing demands
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with particular attention to detail
